Prime Minister Boris Johnson on New Brexit Deal
Folks, we have negotiated a great new deal.
This new deal allows us to get Brexit done and to leave the EU in two weeks’ time on October the 31st, so we can then focus on the people’s priorities and bring the country back together again.
This deal ensures we take back control of our laws, borders, money and trade without disruption, and establishes a new relationship with EU based on free trade and friendly cooperation.
Under the previous negotiation, Brussels maintained ultimate control and could have forced Britain to accept EU laws and taxes forever. This new deal takes back control. We will leave the EU’s Customs Union as one United Kingdom and we’ll be able to strike free trade deals all around the world. The backstop has been abolished; the people of Northern Ireland will be in charge of the laws that they live by. And unlike the backstop, we’ll have the right to end the special arrangement if the people of Northern Ireland so choose.
Tomorrow, MPs have the opportunity to vote for this deal so the UK can take back control, leave the EU and move this country forward. I want us to get Brexit done on Saturday so that we can move on to other priorities, like the cost of living, the NHS, tackling crime and protecting our environment.
Let’s get Brexit done.
