Message by Mayor of London Sadiq Khan on Christmas 2022
Good girl.
Merry Christmas, everyone, both from me and from Luna.
Christmas is one of my favourite times of year, not just because it’s when we reflect upon the birth of Jesus Christ and celebrate the immense contributions of London’s Christian communities, but also because a little tinsel and mince pie will put a smile on the face of even the grumpiest of Londoners. Trust me, I work with one or two.
The Christmas spirit is infectious, and in homes across this city we love so much, I know that so many of you will be treasuring the quality time you spend with your families and loved ones. Let us all cherish these moments, and also take inspiration from Christian values by recommitting to doing everything we can to give back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
I’d like to extend special thanks to our emergency services. It’s absolutely freezing out there, but they’ll be working around the clock indoors and out to save lives this week. Thank you too for everything you’ve done for our city this year. It’s been a hard one, but I know that 2023 will be a year to remember – one where we’ll make even more progress in our mission to build a better city for everyone; one that’s fairer, greener, safer and more prosperous for all.
Rest up, watch some cheesy TV, and enjoy your Christmas break.
From my family, including Luna, to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
