Message from the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, on Rosh Hashanah 2017
To the Jewish community here in London and around the world, I’d like to send my warmest wishes to you for Rosh Hashanah – the Jewish New Year.
This is a time when families come together to reflect on the past year as well as look forward with optimism for the future.
Our city has been through a tough time in recent months, but we can also look back at the many moments that have given us hope. From the way Londoners have united and supported each other, to the way people of all backgrounds and faiths have demonstrated time and again how we don’t just tolerate our diversity in London, but we respect, embrace and celebrate it.
This gives me the confidence that we can – and will – win the battle against the scourge of anti-Semitism – something I’m more determined than ever to do.
I want to thank you – the Jewish community for the enormous contribution you make to enhance the character of London and helping to make this the greatest city in the world.
I wish you a sweet, prosperous and peaceful year ahead – one full of hope and happiness from my family to yours – Shanah Tovah.
