IAEA Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi’s Video Message on COVID-19
The coronavirus is putting an enormous challenge in front of everybody, the IAEA is no exception.
But even in these unusual difficult circumstances, we are making sure that our core essential mission continues unabated. On the one hand, the inspection safeguarding nuclear materials all over the world will not stop for a single minute. And at the same time, we are doing our best to help those Member States that have requested us our assistance, for example, through the provision of detection equipment, which is essential to ensure an early diagnostic and to help health workers attend to this difficult circumstance.
At the same time, as you can see, there is an empty corridor behind me, which normally is full of people, delegates, activity. We are protecting our staff by introducing telecommuting and work from home, in line with the recommendations of the WHO and the Austrian federal authorities.
So, even though we are facing an unusual, unexpected and very difficult challenge, the IAEA is stepping up and providing the continuity of service and function that our Member States expect and deserve. The IAEA continues.
