Leader of the Liberal Democrats Tim Farron’s World AIDS Day Message 2016
1 December 2016
100, 000 people in our country alone live with HIV and 6,000 people are diagnosed the condition every single year. That’s why the 1st of December, World AIDS Day, really matters. It is an opportunity for us to stand alongside all those people living with HIV and AIDS, and all those people who are family members and loved ones of those living with HIV, to say that the stigma surrounding HIV is something we must absolutely challenge and stand up to make sure that people living with HIV have access to every level of society and to the right medical treatment, the right care, and the right support and the same opportunities as everybody else.
Of course, around the world, HIV and AIDS are hugely problematic – massive problems, particularly in large areas of Africa. We must stand alongside those communities, too, to fight against the tragic disease that takes so many lives every year.
1st of December matters. Chances are standing in solidarity with one another to stand against HIV and AIDS and standing in favor of all those people who live with those conditions.
