Speech by Hillary Clinton at the 12th Annual UNICEF Snowflake Ball
Cipriani Wall Street, New York City
November 29, 2016
I am…I am so grateful to have this chance to be here to really celebrate UNICEF, which has such a powerful mission that you’re supporting tonight. And I heard how twelve years ago, there were two round tables, and now this extraordinary space is filled.
Every single child deserves a chance to live up to his or her God-given potential. And for 70 years, UNICEF has protected children’s rights, helped provide foods, safety, medical care, education, and created opportunities for tens of millions of boys and girls around the world – not just to survive, but to thrive.
And then on a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate the recipient of this year’s Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award – someone who just has the spirit, and the energy, and the compassion that Audrey Hepburn brought to her work for UNCIEF; someone who…someone whose powerful voice and creative lyrics remind us when you get knocked down to get back up; and someone who, as you saw in the video, is a deeply committed humanitarian.
We need champions like Katy now more than ever. So, Katy Perry, congratulations! And thank you so much!
