New discourses are understood as new ways of using language to do things as well as newly appeared lexicons, which, while being brought about by the social change, contribute to it to a great extent. To look at the new discourses helps understand better the socio-political transformation in contemporary China . Therefore, the general aim of NDCC 2011 is to explore the dialectic relation between discourse and social change in various domains of social life in China .<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> The first colloquium and workshop were jointly organised by Nankai University and Tianjin University of Commerce in April 2006, the second by Lancaster University (IAS, LCMC, and LEAL) in September 2007, the third by Tianjin University of Commerce and Nankai University in May 2009. The fourth NDCC conference will be held by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in November 2011.
Topics: Topics include but are not limited to the following: Discourse and crisis management; Discourse and international politics / international relations; Discourse and public sphere; World Expo discourse and national identities; Discursive construction of network community and related intertextuality studies; Discourses of governance, advertising, management, education, media, gender, etc; Network catchwords and the social & psychological factors; Ideological analysis of the representation of China in the Western and Eastern media. Abstracts: Participants intending to give a paper are requested to e-mail an abstract of approx. 500 words in English, to Dr. Yu Shengming at fourthndcc@126.com . The abstract should include participant's name, academic position, affiliation, e-mail address and postal address. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 28 February, 2011. Notification of acceptance will be sent by May, 2011. The full papers have to be submitted by the end of October, 2011. Registration fee: The registration fee is 800RMB.
