I join the American people in expressing our deep regret over the loss of life and devastation wrought by recent flooding in south and central China and by the mudslides in Gansu Province this past weekend. The United States is providing support for the ongoing relief efforts through assistance to the Red Cross Society of China. To those affected by this tragedy and to all the people of China, we send our heartfelt condolences.

惊悉中国南部和中部地区最近发生水灾，甘肃省在上个周末发生泥石流，造成重大生命和财产损失，我谨代表美国人民对灾区人民及全中国人民表示深切的慰问，并对在灾害中失去生命的人们表示哀悼。美国正在通过中国红十字会协助救灾。
