I would like to wish a very happy New Year to Chinese communities in Britain, China and all over the world.

我祝愿所有在英国、中国以及全世界的华人群体春节快乐！

As we enter the Year of the Snake, both China and the UK can reflect on an outstanding year of the Dragon, one which brought expanded two-way trade, strengthened cultural ties, and mutual sporting success.  After the incredible 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, last summer athletes from more than 200 countries joined us in London for another celebration of sport.  Once again, Chinese athletes made an impressive contribution to the sporting success of the Games, by winning 88 medals in everything from Gymnastics to Weight-lifting. London 2012, together with Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, allowed us to show what Britain has to offer, and we must seize this moment to encourage even more Chinese students, businessmen and tourists to our shores than ever before.

当我们迎接蛇年的时候，也不忘过去的龙年，这一年对中英两国都是精彩的一年。我们扩大了双边贸易，增强了文化纽带，共享了体育盛典。在北京举办了举世瞩目的2008奥运会和残奥会后，我们在去年夏天与200多个国家共聚伦敦，庆祝了又一届体育盛会。中国运动员再一次为体育竞技做出了极大的贡献，从体操到举重，赢取了各项目共88枚奖牌。2012年，英国女王在伦敦庆祝了她登基六十周年纪念，向全世界展示了英国。我们也会抓住这个时机，鼓励更多中国学生、商人、游客前来英国。
