Pambassadors,

Friends of conservation efforts,

各位尊敬的来宾、熊猫守护使们、致力于保护自然的各位朋友，

I am delighted to join you here today on behalf of the United Nations Development Programme. First, I would like to give my warm congratulations to this year’s Pambassadors. I am impressed by your devotion to conservation and expect great things from your work. I would also congratulate the Chengdu Municipal Government, Wildaid, and the Yao Foundation in making the Pambassador Program such a success–the international scope of the applicants truly shows the dedication of the entire world in protecting the habitat of the Giant Panda. 

我非常荣幸能够代表联合国开发计划署驻华代表处参与这项活动。首先，我要向今年的熊猫守护使们表达衷心的祝贺！你们对自然保护的热诚让我印象深刻，我对你们的工作有很高的期望。同时，我也祝贺成都市政府、野生救援和姚基金，是他们将熊猫守护使打造成为一个如此成功的知名项目。项目收到了来自世界各个角落的申请，真正凸显了全世界致力于保护大熊猫栖息地的决心。

At the United Nations Headquarters in New York, we’ve seen the unusual strength of Hurricane Sandy; and in China, we have experienced an early winter with blizzards. These are ways that our planet is making its voice heard; our planet and its animals are being pushed to the brink as we continue a path of high consumption and production. We have no choice but to find a more sustainable growth model for our collective future. 

在纽约联合国开发计划署总部，我们目睹了桑迪飓风的威力；同样，在中国的很多地区，我们正经历着一场早到的寒冬和暴风雪。我们共同居住的星球正以如此的方式发出自己的声音。我们高生产、高消费的行为正在将地球以其生物推向深渊。因此当务之急是为了我们共同的未来探索一个更可持续的增长模式。

UNDP has been committed to biodiversity conservation work for more than 20 years. In China, we have cooperated with many nation and international partners to identify conservation management solutions and strengthen biodiversity awareness all over China and the world. 

20多年来，联合国开发计划署一直致力于保护生物多样性。在中国，我们与众多的国内和国际上的合作伙伴一道，共同探讨如何在中国以及世界范围内提高保护生物多样性的意识、制定相关治理措施。

That is why we as the UNDP are proud to be here today. In regards to combing sustainable tourism with promotion of environmental awareness, UNDP commends the Chengdu Panda Base and the Pambassador initiative because you have set a good example for China and for the world. Through your excellent work, we have seen the possibilities of improving the benefits for both panda and human. We are able to take a glimpse of what the world would be like if we practiced what China’s national symbol has taught us—harmony.

这也是联合国开发计划署为能够参与今天的活动而感到由衷高兴的原因。在实现将可持续旅游业与提高环保意识有机结合方面，我们要向成都熊猫保护基地和熊猫守护使项目致意。你们为中国和世界树立了榜样，让我们看到了未来熊猫与人类同时受益的可能。从国宝身上，我们懂得了和谐的意义，若将这精神付诸实践，世界的美好前景可以预见。

This, in part, is the mission of the Pambassadors–Although your work is only beginning, in the time you are given as Pambassadors, you will be able to share the future we want, and your actions will determine the future we will have.

这也是熊猫守护使的任务之一。尽管目前你们的工作刚刚起步，一旦成为“熊猫守护使”，你们将一同分享我们的未来，你们的行动就决定我们所拥有的未来。

I wish the best of luck to this year’s Pambassadors–believe in the power of your voices, because the future of the pandas, and the future we want, depends on you.

我祝愿今年的熊猫守护使们在工作中一切顺利。你们要相信自己的力量，因为大熊猫的未来以及我们期望的未来将由你们决定。
