Remarks by Amb. TIAN in Celebration of the ANC Centenary Flame

今天，我和我的同事非常荣幸地参加非国大百年火炬传递仪式。今年是非国大百岁生日，今天的活动也是系列庆祝活动的一部分。我们感谢组委会将中国使馆作为此次火炬传递的一站，这充分显示出中南两国、两党以及两国人民兄弟般的情谊。在此，我愿再次对非国大百年华诞表示热烈祝贺。同时，我想借此机会表达三个感受和三个愿望。

It is indeed a great honor for me and my colleagues to welcome the ANC Centenary Flame. Today’s ceremony is one of the many events celebrating the 100th birthday of the ANC. We are really grateful that you have chosen us, the Chinese embassy, to be part of this grand celebration. Once again, congratulations on the centenary of the ANC!

As I stand here, sharing this exciting and emotional moment with all of you, friends from the ANC, from South Africa and from China, stories of the past and wishes for the future are all there in my heart.

第一，非国大是一个伟大的政党。非国大具有光荣的革命历史，经过八十多年艰苦卓绝的斗争，最终结束了种族隔离制度，建立了新南非，为非洲和世界的和平与进步事业作出了重要贡献。新南非成立十八年来，非国大与南非其他进步力量一道，努力推进民族和解、加快经济发展、大力改善民生，建设惠及全体人民的“发展型国家”，在探索南非特色的发展道路上取得了有目共睹的成就。作为非国大的好同志、好兄弟、好朋友，我们为此深感高兴。我衷心祝愿非国大在执政兴国的道路上不断取得新的成就。

I want to say that, The ANC is a great party, a party that enjoys the glorious history of revolution. More than 80 years of arduous fight has ended the apartheid and gave birth to this new South Africa. This is a significant contribution to peace and development of the continent and the whole world. Eighteen years since the founding of new South Africa, the ANC has been working with other progressive forces in the country to promote national reconciliation, accelerate economic development, improve people’s livelihood and build a developmental country that brings benefits to all its people. No one could ignore your achievement in exploring a development path with South African characteristics. As your good comrades, good brothers and good friends, we cheer at your success. I sincerely wish the ANC new and continuous achievement on your way ahead in state governance and national building.

第二，南非是一个伟大的国家。作为非洲经济首强和联合国安理会、二十国集团、金砖国家等组织的重要成员，南非在国际和地区事务中正发挥着日益重要的作用。中南建交14年、特别是2010年两国建立全面战略伙伴关系以来，双边关系取得快速健康发展，高层互访频繁，政治互信不断增强，各领域合作成果丰硕。特别值得一提的是，今年南非成为中非合作论坛非方主席国，明年3月南非将主办金砖国家峰会，两国在共同推进中非合作、南南合作，促进非洲和世界发展方面面临着重要机遇。我衷心祝愿，在两国共同努力下，中南、中非关系不断迈上新台阶。

I want to say that, South Africa is a great country, a country that is now the strongest economy in Africa, and members to many international organizations including the UN Security Council, G20 and BRICS. You are now playing an ever crucial role in international and regional affairs. China and South Africa established diplomatic relationship 14 years ago, and in 2010, set up the comprehensive strategic partnership. Ever since then, our bilateral relations have been advancing rapidly and soundly, with frequent high-level exchanges, enhanced political mutual trust and fruitful cooperation in various areas. It is worth mentioning that this year South Africa became the African Chair of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and next March, it will host the fifth BRICS Leaders Meeting. These are both important opportunities for our two countries to promote China-Africa cooperation, South-South cooperation and facilitate the development of this continent. I sincerely wish that we can work together to bring China-South Africa and China-Africa relations to a new stage.

第三，南非人民是一个伟大的民族。南非被誉为“彩虹之国”，多元、包容成为南非重要的民族特征。你们用勤劳的汗水开拓了这片土地，你们用和解的精神赢得了国家的新生，你们用聪明与智慧引领着南非不断走向繁荣与富强。中南两国虽然地理上相距遥远，但两国同属发展中国家，两国人民都是勤劳、勇敢、智慧的人民，有着天然的亲近感和共同的理想和追求。我衷心祝愿，两国人民的友谊像南非的葡萄酒一样，随着时间的流逝，更加醇厚、更加珍贵。

I want to say that, South African people is a great nation, a "rainbow nation" of diversity and tolerance. Your hard work opened up this land, your reconciliation spirit brought this country a second life, and your wisdom is now guiding the country to prosperity and happiness. Although distant on the map, both China and South Africa are developing countries; we are both nations of hard-working, brave and intelligent people, sharing unaffected closeness and common aspirations. I sincerely wish that, just like the fine South African wine, the friendship between our two peoples will become more mellow and precious as time passes.

最后，祝此次火炬传递活动圆满成功！
