 Address by H.E. Ambassador Mr. Yang Houlan at the Inauguration Ceremony of Devkota Lu Xun Academy

德夫科塔—鲁迅学会会长查帕干先生,

学会各位会员、作家、诗人，

女士们，先生们，朋友们：

Ladies and gentlemen, dear friends,

　　下午好。十分高兴出席德夫科塔—鲁迅学会成立仪式，我谨代表中国驻尼泊尔大使馆对学会的成立表示热烈祝贺！

Good afternoon. I feel very pleased to attend the inauguration ceremony of Devkota Lu Xun Academy. On behalf of Chinese Embassy in Nepal, I would like to extend my warm congratulations to the inauguration of Devkota Lu Xun Academy.

　　中尼是山水相连的近邻，两国人民世代相传的友好始于文化交往。中国晋代高僧法显、唐代高僧玄奘赴尼泊尔朝佛和尼泊尔著名工匠阿尼哥前往中国修建白塔寺的故事，已成为两国人民世代传颂的佳话。

China and Nepal are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. The traditional friendship between us started from cultural exchanges and interactions. Chinese monk Fa Xian in Jin Dynasty and Xuan Zang in Tang Dynasty came to Nepal for pilgrimage. Nepal’s famous artist Arniko went to China and built White Pagoda Temple. These have become much-told tales of the two peoples from generation to generation.

　　近年来，随着中尼全面合作伙伴关系的不断深入发展，两国人文交往呈现上升势头。两国文艺团组交流互访不断，在尼泊尔“中国节”、“中国电影节”和在中国的“尼泊尔文化节”相继成功举办，受到两国人民的热烈欢迎。加德满都大学孔子学院的规模不断扩大，中文志愿者教师供不应求。今年1月，温家宝总理成功访尼，两国领导人宣布2012年为“中尼友好交流年”。中方将同尼方共同努力，努力落实两国领导人达成的共识，积极推动双方人文互动交流，不断夯实两国友好的社会基础。

In recent years, as China-Nepal Comprehensive Partnership of Cooperation continues to deepen, the cultural exchanges and cooperation between us have also gained a much better momentum. Cultural and Art delegations of our two countries frequently exchange visits. China festival, Chinese film festival in Nepal and Nepali Cultural Festival in China were held successfully, received high popularity among the two peoples. Confucius Institute in Katmandu University is enlarging its scare and Chinese volunteer teachers are in high demand. In this January, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao paid a successful visit to Nepal, during which the two state leaders declared this year as “Nepal- China Friendly Exchange Year 2012”. The Chinese side will make joint efforts with the Nepali side to implement the consensus reached by our state leaders, to push forward the friendly exchanges and interactions between the two peoples and consolidate the foundation of our friendly relations.

　　德夫科塔和鲁迅是尼中两国伟大的文学泰斗，在两国文化发展史中也有着相似的贡献和地位。我的尼泊尔朋友告诉我，德夫科塔是尼泊尔最著名、最有才华的诗人和文学家，在尼泊尔家喻户晓，他的作品开创了尼泊尔现代文学史。而鲁迅是中国现代文学的伟大奠基者。1918年他发表的中国第一篇现代小说《狂人日记》，宛如中国文学革命的第一声春雷。鲁迅毕生致力于国家的命运和人民的幸福，他的作品、思想和精神，教育和鼓舞了一代又一代中国人。

Devkota and Lu Xun are the leading authority of literature in Nepal and China respectively. They have similar status in and contributions to the cultural development of their own country. From my Nepali friends, I know that Devkota is the most famous and talent poet and writer in Nepal. Every Nepali knows Devkota and his work started the modern literature of Nepal. While Lu Xun is the great foundation-layer of Chinese contemporary literature. He published China’s first modern novel --A Madman's Diary in 1918, which was regarded as the first spring thunder of Chinese literature revolution. Lu Xun dedicated his whole life to the destiny of the nation and happiness of the people. His works, thought and spirit continue to educate and encourage one generation by another in China.

　　今天，我们高兴地看到，尼泊尔的专家学者建立了德夫科塔—鲁迅学会，这个学会将致力于相关领域的研究，以及两国在文学、文化领域的交流交往。中尼都是文明古国，两国有着众多优秀作家作品与文化遗产。相信学会的成立将为两国文学、文化交流设立新的平台，进一步增进两国人文领域的友好关系。

Today, we are happy to see the experts and scholars in Nepal set up Devkota Lu Xun Academy. The academy will be committed to the research and exchanges in related areas. Both China and Nepal are ancient civilizations, abundant with excellent writers, works and cultural heritage. I believe Devkota Lu Xun Academy will provide a new platform to the exchanges in literature and culture between the two countries and further strengthen the friendly relation between the two peoples.
