The Hon Peter Slipper MP,

Excellencies, Distinguished Guests,

我谨代表中国驻澳大利亚大使馆热烈欢迎各位出席中国国庆招待会，感谢各位多年来对中澳关系和中国驻澳使馆的大力支持。　　

I warmly welcome you all to the Chinese Embassy for the National Day reception.

I wish to thank you for your long standing support to China-Australia relations and the Chinese Embassy.

　　我们即将迎来中华人民共和国建国63周年。63年在人类史上不过是弹指一挥间，中国和世界却已沧海桑田。　　

We gather here to celebrate the 63rd anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

63 years is only a moment in human history, but means great transformations for China and the world.

　　63年来，中国实现了民族独立和国家富强。中华民族告别了落后屈辱，中国人民站起来掌握了自己的命运。63年中，中国经济总量增加110倍，从世界的二十分之一跃居全球第二大经济体。中国工业、科技飞速发展，神舟飞天，蛟龙探海。中国人民从贫困到温饱再到总体小康，人均收入增长230倍，教育、医疗、养老各项社会事业蓬勃发展。　　

Over 63 years, China has realized national independence and prosperity.

The Chinese nation has shaken off backwardness and humiliation.

The Chinese people have stood up, with destiny in their own hands.

In 63 years, China’s economic size increased by 110 times, growing from one twentieth of the world’s total to the second largest economy in the world.

Industries and science have developed rapidly, with proud achievements like the Shenzhou space missions and Jiaolong deep-sea research program.

People’s living standard had improved from poverty to having adequate food and clothing, and they are leading a life of moderate prosperity.

　　中国迈向了全面开放和民主法治。63年前，中国基本处于半封闭状态。中国占世界出口额的比重一度跌至历史最低点的0.65％。如今，中国是世界第二贸易大国，2011年外贸总额比1950年增长3100倍。中国社会日益开放，我们有5.38亿网民、1900家报刊和230万个网站，民主法治建设不断推进。中国人民从没有像今天这样享受着真实而广泛的自由和民主。　　

China has opened up in all aspects, and made great progress in democracy and rule of law.

63 years ago, China was basically semi-closed.

0.65% was China’s share in the global export volume at its historical low.

Today, China is the world’s second largest trading nation.

External trade in 2011 was 3100 times more than that of 1950.

The Chinese society is increasingly open.

We have 538 million netizens, 1900 newspapers and 2.3 million websites.

Development of democracy and rule of law have continued to press ahead.

The Chinese people had never enjoyed such real and broad freedom and democracy as they do today.

　　中国在国际舞台上扮演日益重要的角色。63年来，中国与世界的关系发生了历史性变化，中国的命运同世界的前途已密不可分。中国坚定奉行独立自主的和平外交政策，坚定捍卫国家独立主权和领土完整，秉持互利共赢的合作理念，坚持与邻为善、以邻为伴，与国际社会合作应对热点问题和全球性挑战，为维护地区与国际稳定和繁荣发挥了重要的建设性作用。　　

China is playing an increasingly important role in international arena.

Over 63 years, China’s relations with the world have seen historic changes.

China’s destiny has been closely linked to the future of the world.

China firmly pursues an independent foreign policy of peace and follows the principle of mutual benefit and win-win cooperation.

China is steadfast in safeguarding its national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

China continues to build friendship and partnership with neighboring countries, and works together with other members of the international community to tackle hotspot issues and global challenges.

It has played an important constructive role in maintaining stability and prosperity in the region and beyond.
