Good morning, everyone, and thank you for gathering to honor and remember the more than million men and women who have died defending our country, our freedom and stopping tyranny around the world…

大家早上好，感谢你们聚在一起纪念和缅怀超过百万的为保卫我们的国家、我们的自由和在世界各地制止暴政而牺牲的男女……

Memorial Day has its roots in the Civil War. Since then, we have seen the ranks of those fallen swell because of too many wars: World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, and Afghanistan. In all conflicts, no matter what we choose to call them, people and soldiers have died.

纪念日起源于内战。从那时起，我们看到因为太多的战争而倒下的行列不断增加：第一次世界大战、第二次世界大战、韩国、越南、海湾和阿富汗。在所有冲突中，无论我们选择如何称谓他们，人们和战士们都已经死亡。

Who were these soldiers in uniform? They were called “Yanks,” and “GIs,” “Swabbies,” and “Flyboys.” They were “WACs” and “WAVES,” “Leathernecks” and just plain “Joe.”

这些穿制服的战士是谁呢？他们被称为“Yanks”，“GIs”，“Swabbies”和“Flyboys” 。他们是“WACs”和“WAVES”，“Leathernecks”，和仅仅是“Joe”。

But at home, we had other names for them, like mom, dad, son, daughter, brother, sister, sweetheart. The people who fought and gave their lives were black, white, yellow, red.

但是在家里，我们对他们有其他的称谓，如妈妈、爸爸、儿子、女儿、兄弟、姐妹、爱人。战斗并献出自己生命的有黑、白、黄、红人。

During World War II, African-American and Japanese-American soldiers gave their lives for our country. Even though their loved ones at home lived in segregated communities or in camps behind barbed-wire fences, yet they fought and died because they, too, believed in freedom and the essential goodness and destiny of America.

二战期间，非洲裔和日裔美国战士为我们的国家献出其生命。即使他们在家的爱人住在隔离社区，或铁丝网后面的营地，他们照样战斗和牺牲，因为他们也相信自由，和美国的基本善良和命运。

We want all of our soldiers to come home. And in all wars, we want to reclaim the fallen so they can come home to be buried and honored, close to their families and loved ones.

我们希望我们所有的战士回家。并且，我们要领回所有战争中倒下的人们，让他们能回家得到安葬和荣誉，和他们的家人和爱人在一起。

So today, I’d like to also salute the men and women in the military who have worked so hard for so many years to bring home the remains of our soldiers wherever they have died in battle.

所以，今天，我想向军队里的男女致敬，他们多年来如此努力地工作，将我们战士们的残骸带回国内，无论这些战士们在何处的战斗中牺牲。

While these men and women often deliver heartbreaking news, they also bring closure to families who have spent years wondering about the fate of their son or daughter, father or mother, brother, sister, or sweetheart.

这些男女经常传送令人心碎的消息，但他们也为那些多年不知其子女、父母、兄弟、姐妹或心上人命运的家庭带来解脱。

More than 2,000 soldiers, sailors and airmen remain missing in action in Vietnam alone. And the Defense POW/Missing Personnel Office continues its search for the missing in all corners of the world. In Mission China is working with the local and central Chinese government on recovering in Northeastern China the remains of three individuals out of the more than 8,000 Americans still missing from the Korean War.

仅在越南，有超过2000名陆军、海军和空军依然失踪。防务部战俘/失踪人员办公室继续在世界的各个角落搜寻失踪人员。驻中国使团正在与中国地方和中央政府进行合作，在中国东北部收回3名人员的残骸，他们是在8000多名曾在朝韩战争期间仍然不知下落的美国人中的3名人员。

This Memorial Day Weekend, we remember the more than a million men and women who died in uniform, from the Revolutionary War, to the Pacific, to Afghanistan.  We salute them all.

这个纪念日周末，我们缅怀超过百万的在服役期间逝去的军队男女，从革命战争，到太平洋，到阿富汗。我们向他们所有人致敬。

We thank them for our freedom, our liberty, our independence that we enjoy every single day because of their ultimate sacrifices.  Let’s remember them.  Let’s honor them.

我们为我们的自由、我们的独立而感谢他们，因为他们最大的牺牲，我们每一天都享受到这些。让我们缅怀他们。让我们向他们表示敬意。
