　　很高兴出席今天的活动。首先，我要感谢肖钢董事长的盛情邀请，让我有机会与在座的各位精英交流对话。我愿同各位朋友建立起良好的关系，共同为中南关系更加全面深入发展贡献自己的一份力量。

It’s my great pleasure to attend today’s event. First of all, I want to thank Chairman Xiao Gang for your warm invitation. Thank you for providing me with this opportunity to have exchanges and dialogue with all of the distinguished guests present today. I wish to establish excellent relations with all of you so that we can work together to deepen China-South Africa relationship and bring it to a more comprehensive level.

　　当前，世界经济形势仍不明朗，美国经济在自我修复中缓慢复苏，欧洲主权债务危机持续发酵，新兴经济体增长势头有所放缓，复苏的道路依旧艰难坎坷。今天，中行在此举办这个人民币海外推介会，我觉得非常有必要，也非常有意义。

I believe it is very important and relevant for the Bank of China to hold today’s RMB Promotion Conference. The world economic situation remains unclear. The recovery of the US economy is slow and the European sovereign debt crisis is still spreading. The growth of emerging economies has slowed down. There are many difficulties on the way ahead towards global economic recovery.

　　金融是现代经济的核心，而货币又是现代金融的重要载体，它不仅反映一国经济发展状况，还体现出一国在国际经济金融事务中的地位和作用。近年来，依托中国经济的快速发展、国际地位的持续提升以及金融市场的逐步开放，国际市场对人民币需求不断上升，人民币在世界范围内的认受程度也日益提高。尤其是百年一遇的金融危机，暴露了以美元为主导的国际货币体系的脆弱性，国际货币体系多元化改革呼声再次高涨。在此背景下，人民币成为各国尤其是广大发展中国家分散汇率风险、推动国际货币体系朝更加公正、合理方向发展的一个重要选项。

The financial industry is the core of modern economy, and currency is the important carrier of modern financial industry, reflecting not only the economic development of one country but also the standing and role of a certain country in international economic affairs. Over the recent years, China has been experiencing rapid economic development, rising international standing and greater openness of its financial market. As a result, the international market has an increasing demand for RMB and this currency has been better recognized around the world. The current international financial crisis has exposed the fragility of the existing dollar-centered international monetary system. Therefore people now are calling for the diversification of this system. Against such backdrop, RMB has become an important alternative for many countries, especially developing countries, to hedge exchange rate risks and promote the change towards a fairer and more just international monetary system.

　　目前，我们已先后同181各境外国家和地区实现跨境人民币实际收付业务，与韩国、马来西亚、香港、白俄罗斯、阿根廷等近20个国家和地区签署总额为1.6万亿元人民币双边互换协议。作为一家具有百年历史的银行，中国银行是经中国人民银行批准的海外人民币唯一清算行，在推广跨境人民币业务、推进人民币国际化进程中扮演了不可或缺的重要角色。

Now 181 countries or regions are able to carry out trans-border RMB payment and collection with China. Nearly 20 countries and regions, such as the ROK, Malaysia, Belarus, Argentina and Hong Kong, have signed bilateral currency swap agreements with China with a total volume of RMB1.6 trillion yuan. The Bank of China has just celebrated its centenary and is the only Chinese bank proved by the Central Bank of China to do overseas RMB settlement. The BOC therefore holds an indispensible key to the promotion of cross-border RMB business and RMB internationalization.

　　中行约堡分行成立十二年来，在业务上取得了不俗的成绩，在南非开创了多个第一。特别是2011年9月人民币业务部成立以来，中行约堡分行更是实现了人民币业务逾40倍的增长，见证了南非经济发展、中非经贸合作的成长，以及人民币业务需求的快速增长。对此，我深表赞赏。

Over 12 years after its establishment, the BOC Johannesburg Branch has done an excellent job with many “first time” records in South Africa. In particular, after the inauguration of its RMB Business Department in September 2011, BOC Johannesburg has recorded an over forty-time increase in its RMB business. It has witnessed the economic development of South Africa, the growth of China-Africa business cooperation and the increasing demand for RMB business. I deeply appreciate such remarkable achievements.

　　各位嘉宾、朋友们，

Dear Friends,

　　中南两国建交虽只有14年，但双边关系定位在短期内实现了由伙伴关系、战略伙伴关系到全面战略伙伴关系的“三连跳”。中国是南非在全球最大的贸易伙伴，南非则是中国在非洲最大的贸易伙伴。去年，两国贸易总额达454.3亿美元，同比增长77%，其中南非出口320亿美元，增长115%，两国贸易呈现出良好的增长势头，合作领域也不断拓宽。

China and South Africa only enjoys 14 years of diplomatic relations, but our bilateral relations has realized a “triple jump” in this short time span: from partnership to strategic partnership, and to comprehensive strategic partnership. China is now South Africa’s largest trading partner in the world and South Africa is China’s largest trading partner in Africa. Last year, the total trade volume between our two countries has increased by 77% to US$45.4 billion, among which US$32 billion were South Africa’s exports to China, an increase of 115% compared with the previous year. I am happy to see that out bilateral trade is growing with a good momentum and our bilateral cooperation keeps expanding.

　　我相信，如此巨大的合作空间和发展前景，必将为中南两国在发展人民币跨境业务方面提供坚实的基础和支撑！

I believe such bright prospects for cooperation will serve as a solid basis for China-South Africa cross-border RMB business.

　　我相信，人民币产品走进南非、走进非洲，不仅有利于促进中南、中非经贸合作，也将为当地经济社会发展带来更多机遇！

I also believe that RMB’s presence in Africa, especially in South Africa, will not only boost China-South Africa and China-Africa business cooperation, but also bring more opportunities to local economic and social development.

　　我希望，在座的各位尤其是中资企业要抓住契机，进一步加强金融领域的投资和合作，将中南关系、中非关系推向更高阶段！

I hope all the distinguished guests present today, Chinese entrepreneurs in particular, can seize this opportunity and scale up financial investment and cooperation so as to bring China-South Africa and China-Africa relations to a higher level.
