To the Shanghai 2010 World Expo Committee of the People’s Republic of China:<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Fiji is pleased to be associated with the 2010 Shanghai Exposition, together with other nations in the Pacific. The 2010 Shanghai World Expo is a wonderful opportunity to explore and share valuable innovations, and experiences from the 227 participating countries in this grand gathering of world cultures. What the world is witnessing here today is without doubt a huge success, attracting at least 70 million visitors, and is a remarkable showcase of sights, smells, tastes, sounds, feel, and glamour from around the globe.  

Being the first exhibition of its kind in the developing country, and producing an Expo of this magnitude, is indicative of the dedication, commitment and hard work of the government of the People’s Republic of China, led by its national organizing committee. I express Fiji’s appreciation and convey congratulations to the People’s Republic of China’s tireless efforts, to the preparation and success of this grand event. To the commissioner General of the Chinese government, the employees and staff we’ve worked tirelessly to pull this event together, are of the most sincere gratitude of my delegation, for your assistance and dedication. I congratulate your team, and I can assure you the Pacific Pavilion will offer our wishes and exceptional focus of our region. And Fiji’s booths will be an experience in itself. I wish to also thank the Commissioner General of the Chinese government for their financial assistance. This is indeed an opportunity time for the world to see China. It is a fantastic chance for developing and strengthening ties of cooperation between the participating countries. Fiji is honored to be a part of such an event.  

The innovations and introductions of cross-cultural dialogues that we are privileged at this Expo optimize this year’s theme - "Better City, Better Life". It signifies our quest to improve to better the society we live in. The display of scientific and technological development, and the quality of exhibition showcased its reflecting of the theme. It reminds us that we must not only provide our nations with basic needs, but also improve and enlist the individual life for our people in our respective cities.  

It is definitely a source of pride for Fiji, and I’m sure for the other Pacific island nations, to participate in the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition. We’ll also like to thank that we have contributed to the success of this Expo. I’m sure that the 2010 Shanghai World Exposition will live long in our memories. Best wishes in every success for Expo 2010. Thank you.
