The
sacred horn suddenly loses its prophecy; With
no tortoise shells in the heart I cannot divine whether Our
meeting in the next existence is North
of the frontier or south of the River. Say,
old friend, At
parting did you rend the silk of the willow Or
the silk of hair?
The
flat cypress weaves, the hair weaves, The
storybook also weaves, weaving an intricate net, Netting
me into a cocoon. Beyond
the cocoon is Zen, beyond Zen is a riddle; The
riddle is delusion, in delusion the net revolves.
Each
revolution is unpredictable dream Because
the book of dream interpretation was cast way Into
the dream of the illusive South1.
