Night Stars in May
The stars of May have dimmed,
but the storm rages all night, tossing waves to the heavens;
we rely on all to hold firm on oars and helm,
sailing through all weathers to meet the light.
Friends, are you retreating? Why do you stare vacantly into the sky?
A river of blood pursues us, the air crashes with thunder.
Where can this lonely boat moor?
Come now! Let us summon all our strength to save it.
Friends, be calm!
Do not spend time aimlessly, midnight approaches.
You should not weep but use to the fullest all you have,
turning it into flames to spread all around.
May stars are still with you,
directing your lonely boat as it speeds through the darkness.
Do not curse the summer night for being too long.
Look, blood rains everywhere, none can escape its stain.
