《古代寓言·曾参杀人》（中英对照）

昔者曾子处费，费人有与曾子同名族者，而杀人。

人告曾子母曰：“曾参杀人!”

曾子之母曰：“吾子不杀人。”织自若。

有顷焉，人又曰：“曾参杀人!”

其母尚织自若也。

顷之，一人又告之曰：“曾参杀人!”

其母惧，投杼，訒逾墙而走。

The Rumour about Zeng Shen

Once, when Zeng Shen went to the district of Fei, a man with the same name there committed a murder. Someone went to tell Zeng Shen’s mother: “Zeng Shen has killed a man!”

“Impossible,” she replied. “My son would never do such a thing.”

She went calmly on with her weaving.

After a while, someone else came to report: “Zeng Shen has killed a man.”

Still the old lady went on weaving.

Then a third man came to tell her: “Zeng Shen has killed a man!”

This time his mother was frightened. She threw down
