宋人或得玉，献诸子罕，子罕弗受。献玉者曰`：“以示玉人，玉人以为宝也，故敢献之。”子罕曰：“我以不贪为宝，尔以玉为宝，若以与我，皆丧宝也。不若人有其宝。”<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The Treasure

One day a man from the State of Song procured a piece of jade and offered it to Zihan,[a minister from the State of Qi], who, however, refused to accept the gift.

The flatterer said:

“I have shown this precious stone to a jade master who regarded it as a very valuable object; thus I dare to offer it to you.”

Zihan replied:

“You consider this jade a treasure, but my treasure is to refuse bribes. If you give the jade to me, both of us lose something precious. So let us keep our respective treasures to ourselves.”
