蜩与学鸠笑之曰:“我决起而飞,枪榆枋而止;时则不正,而控于地已矣。奚以九万里而南为?”……之二虫又何知! The Ambition of a Roc Across the ocean there was a bird of great size called a roc, who upon taking flight, flew over ninety thousand miles at a stretch. On the beach there was a cicada and a turtle-dove, who looked at the vigour of the roc and said in a sarcastic voice: “If we want to take flight, we simply fly up into the air. When we come across an elm or a sandal, we stop there for a rest. At times we run out of strength, and we come down to the earth. Oh! My dear roc, what need is there to fly as high as ninety thousand miles up before flying toward the South?” How could they know the ambition of the roc? |
