Chou Chi said: ‘Chiang K’uei used the methods of shih in the composition or tz’u, but the path he made was superficial and narrow. In the same way, the writing of Sun Kuo-t’ing [though not exceptional] became the model for later men to follow’. It is my opinion that there is a similarity to this in the respect and homage paid to Chang Yen by men in recent times.
