In Chou Pang-yen’s tz’u [his description of women] makes too much effort to be charming. Therefore it lacks the imagery of a great writer. Even though Yen Shu and Ouyang Hsiu did not make such an effort, with one smile they could bewitch in a hundred ways. This is the difference between a genius and a technician.
