Our contemporaries only know that alliteration is not bound by the four tones, and do not realize that assonace is also not bound by the three tones p’ing, shang, and ch’u. all words with the same vowel, even though showing a difference in p’ing (level) or tse (deflected), are still considered to have assonance.
