The method of expression of [Wang] Yi-ning’s tz’u is vigorous. For example, his tz’u to the tune of ‘Mo shan ch’i’ with subtitle ‘In rhyme with Yu Yen-kung’s “Sent to Ch’ien Sun-shu”’, the tz’u to the tune of ‘Man t’ing fang’ with subtitle ‘On the fifth of the fifth month ascending Rosy-Cloud tower’, and the tz’u to the tune of ‘Huan ch’i sha’ with subtitle ‘Mooring the boat on the bank of the river Hung’ have none of the fleeting sensuousness and empty superficiality of the Southern Sung. Most of his other poems are also in the same class.
