Huang Sheng considered [Sun Kuang-hsien’s] ‘The whole courtyard rain-spattered lends dampness to my spring sorrow’ one of the best lines of all ages. I feel it cannot come up to his ‘A sail on the hazy horizon like a single flash,’ which seems to have more ching-chieh.
