《人间词话》英译（九十四）

和凝《长命女》词：“天欲晓。宫漏穿花声缭绕，窗里星光少。  冷霞寒侵帐额，残月光沈树杪。梦断锦闱空悄悄。强起愁眉小。”此词前半，不减夏英公《喜迁莺》也。

Ho Ning’s tz’u to the tune of ‘Ch’ang ming nu’ is:

Dawn about to break

The sound of the palace water clock drifts deep among the flowers, wrapping them round.

Through the window the starlight dims.

A cold mist steals chill upon the bed curtains.

The waning moonlight drops behind the trees.

Her dream cut short, she lies listless and quiet under the brocade canopy.

She forces herself to rise; face so sad beneath the thin eyebrows.

The first half is not at all inferior to Hsia Sung’s tz’u to the tune of ‘Hsi ch’ien ying’.
