<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Ho Shang said: ‘When Chiang [K’uei] discussed the tz’u of Shih [Ta-tsu] he did not extol the line, “Now softly twittering, trying to decide”, but rather appreciated the line, “They’ve gazed their fill at willows now shaded, flowers now dark.” From this we can see that he suffered from the same kind of problem that Hsiang Yu encountered in learning the art of warfare.’ However, the latter line fits in with the mode of expression of poets like Ouyang Hsiu and Ch’in Kuan. The difference between the first and second example is the difference between a painter at work and nature at work. I’ll go along with Chiang K’uei’s estimate. I cannot agree with Ho Shang. |
