唐、五代、北宋之词，可谓“生香真色”。若云间诸公，则彩花耳。湘真且然，况其次也者乎？

It may be said that the tz’u of the T’ang, Five Dynasties, and Northern Sung have a living fragrance and true color. But the poetry of the Yun-chien writers is like a nosegay of artificial flowers in comparison. If this is true of Ch’en Tzu-lung, how much more so of his inferiors?
