《人间词话》英译（二十一）

欧九《浣溪沙》词：“绿杨楼外出秋千。”晁补之谓：只一“出”字，便后人所不能道。余谓此本于正中《上行杯》词“柳外秋千出画墙”，但欧语尤工耳。<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

In Ouyang Hsiu’s tz’u to the tune of ‘Huan ch’I sha’ there is a line, ‘Through the green willows beyond the tower a swing comes into view’. Chao Pu-chih said that the one word ch’u 出 (comes into view) could not have been attained by later poets. It is my opinion that this is based on a line in Feng Yen-ssu’s tz’u to the tune of ‘Shang hsing pei’, ‘Beyond the willows the swing comes in view (ch’u) over the painted wall’. However, Ouyang’s phrase shows more skill.
