Although Feng Yen-ssu retained the air and form (feng-ko) of the Five Dynasties in his tz’u, the aside effects of his writings were considerable. He initiated the style (feng-ch’i) which was to become characteristic of the Northern Sung period, and along with Li Ching and Li Yu went beyond the scope of Hua-chien chi. It is therefore quite fitting that not a single word of these three poets appears in that anthology.
