‘A pair of golden partridges on a painted screen’, written by Wen T’ing-yun, typifies the quality of his tz’u. ‘Drew from the strings the notes of the golden oriole’, written by Wei Chuang, typifies the quality of his tz’u. if we were to look for a line in Feng Yen-ssu’s tz’u to typify his poetic quality, I think ‘In tears she makes an attempt at formal dress’ comes quite close.
