A Conscientious Objector Builds the Temple of Prosperity

Yu Xuanji

A recluse creates a realm apart,

Where travelers stop on their way;

anonymous writings are left on the walls,

the shrine has not yet been named.

He dug a pond, and a spring emerged;

he cleared the path, but the grass has regrown.

The lofty golden temple opens eyes wide,

bright and clear at the river’s edge.
