乡国何迢递，同鱼寄水流。

Brothers young and old, “together” in five commanderies;

Fathers and sons, fundamentally one, though scattered now in three regions.

If you want to verify the union of the flying wild ducks,

You must attest to the rambling of the White Hare.

The sacred melon was received in a dream;

The divine oranges he stored in his seat.

My native country—how distant and far!

With the fish, I entrust these thoughts to the flow of the stream.

Being Mortal, My Mind Turns to Mortality

Imagine brothers dispersed, fathers and sons,

Held in one web of thought, in separate provinces:

Wild ducks all, ascending, distance-winged,

United only by the flying moon.

Ailing, my mother craved a sacred melon

Out of season; in a dream I grasped it.

I am so far from my native land, my loves,

I must scatter home thoughts on the rising stream.
