绛帻鸡人报晓筹，尚衣方进翠云裘。　　

九天阊阖开宫殿，万国衣冠拜冕旒。　　

日色才临仙掌动，香烟欲傍衮龙浮。　　

朝罢须裁五色诏，佩声归到凤池头。

In Reply to Jia Zhi’s Morning Levee at Daming Palace

The watchman with red kerchief announces the coming of the morning hours,

An apparel officer just sends the Emperor a robe embroidered with green clouds.

The front gate opens and palaces come in view of the heavenly Forbidden City,

Envoys all over the world arrive to have an audience with his Majesty.

The sun has just spread its light, and the Emperor stands up and leaves;

Long-handled fans follow him, and scented smoke in the wake of his sleeves.

After the levee on the five-coloured paper the imperial edicts you’ll write,

Clinks of pendants accompany you to return the Phoenix Pool in delight.
