朝光市井喧。

渔商波上客。

Morning in Xingyang

As my boat is entering Xingyang’s waters,

The town looms mighty and great. We wind

’Tween narrow lanes and crowded quarters

With population thick behind.

Their custom quaint, their habits strange,

They speak in an accent sounding rare.

How lush at dusk the autumn crops,

How brisk the trade at the morning fair!

Busy the fisherman and vendors on boat,

Bustle the villages with barking and crowing.

Beyond those clouds, say, where do I float?

Alas! ’Tis more than a floater’s knowing.
