思向东溪守故篱。

不厌尚平婚嫁早，

却嫌陶令去官迟。

草堂蛩响临秋急，

山里蝉声薄暮悲。

寂寞柴门人不到，

空林独与白云期。

Written in Early Autumn, in the Mountains

Dark minds must never blot the brilliant day,

Perhaps return to my plants will suit me more.

How right was Shang to marry his children away!

But Tao was slow in quitting that sheriff’s chore.

The crickets, pressed by autumn, chirp in the house,

And cicadas sound so drear at dusk on the height.

Such quiet hut, disturbed by not a mouse,

Such tranquil woods, where I date with the clouds so white!
