The Baxia Corge at Dawn
At break of day the Baxia Gorge appears With the passing spring when I miss my Chang'an dears. A lass is washing by the clear blue stream, The roosters crow to greet the rising sun. Now here's a fair on boat where trade is done, Up there they seem to walk on a tree-top beam! One climb reveals all hamlets, one by one, One gaze can catch where two bright rivers gleam. The folk here speak with an accent full of fun, But orioles' notes with the homeland tunes still teem. And thus the charm of things one sees and hears In part a traveller's mind of home-thoughts clears.
