彼候人兮，何戈与殳。
彼其之子，三百赤芾。

维鹈在梁，不濡其翼。
彼其之子，不称其服。

维鹈在梁，不濡其咮。
彼其之子，不遂其媾。

荟兮蔚兮，南山朝隮。
婉兮娈兮，季女斯饥。

Guards of Fair Maidens

Before the palace stand
The guards with spears in hand,
Three hundred maidens fair
In red dress locked there.

The heron's on the dam
But its wings are not wet.
They know not who I am,
But for me they covet.

The heron on the dam
Has not wetted its bead.
They know not what ia am,
But after me they seek.

Clouds over south hill spread
With two rainbows above.
Fair maidens should be wed.
How hungry they're for love!
