“Song of Ho Man-tzu” (Ho Man-tzu) Mao
His-chen
1
She
is disconsolate that her youth is slipping away. The
years pass with the startling speed of an arrow. She
thinks of lost joys, so much rushes back to memory. Her
ever-rising desire makes it hard to remain calm. Golden
willow branches trail over a winding railing. A
silver zither, string broken, lies by the window.
Only
chattering swallows are heard in the courtyard. The
falling flowers lightly drift across the garden. She
can’t stop her thoughts of him, not for one moment. How
can she bear that he fills her days with sorrow? But
who can see her lonely dreams through the night, Or
her heart that so utterly breaks when she awakes!
