东君分付春还。

何人便将轻暖，

点破残寒？

结伴踏青去好，

平头鞋子小双鸾。

烟郊外，

望中秀色，

饾饤得天气有许多般。

须教镂花拨柳，

争要先看。

不道吴绫绣袜，

香泥斜沁几行斑。

东风巧，

尽收翠绿，

吹上眉山。

Mixing rain into crumpet dough,

Inculcating ice to melt,

The East Wind has ordered the return of spring.

Who has expelled the remaining chill

With a light touch of tentative warmth?

‘Tis the time to go outing with companions:

Dainty square-toed shoes covering dainty feet.

In the misty outskirts,

One sees the delicate colors:

Now they are there, now they are not.

 

Suddenly it’s sunlight,

Suddenly it’s overcast—

So changeable.

How the weather presents many faces.

To enjoy flowers and play with the willows,

All vie to be the first to view spring.

The embroidered satin hosiery from Wu1

Is splashed with streaks of fragrant mud.

The East Wind is skillful:

It gathers together all the dark emerald green

And blows it onto fair ladies’ arched brows.
