At dusk a boat is floating on the river wide.

Whose hermitage stands lonely by the riverside?

A branch of mume at leisure stretches o'er the wall.

The mume veiled in moonlight sends fragrance on the wing;

It longs for home, but only stays for coming spring.

The wind-stirred petals show their sorrow one and all.
