The east wind blows away all riverside mume flowers,

And orange flowers blow.

In ancient Wu palaces, before the bowers,

Green mosses grow.

The Empire’s rise and fall

Make heroes all

Shed tears untold

And men grow old.

How I regret the sun sinks on the western side

And ebbs the evening tide!
