玉炉香，

红蜡泪，

偏照画堂秋思。

眉翠薄，

鬓云残，

夜长衾枕寒。

Wen Tingyun

Jade incense-burner’s fragrance,

Red candle’s tears,

Unevenly light the decorated chamber’s sadness.

Eyebrows’ black thin,

Tresses’ clouds fallen:

Night long, coverlet and pillow cold.

Wutong trees,

Third watch rain,

Care not for separation’s sorrow’s utter bitterness.

Single leaf by leaf,

Single sound by sound,

On the empty steps dripping until dawn.
