Enthusiasm Makes the Difference<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Enthusiasm Knocks Out Fear and Worry A physician remarked that about half of the people who come into his office do not actually have anything physically wrong--they've just had the life knocked out of them and as a result have become prey to worries and fears. He said if only he could go to a shelf , get down a good bottle of enthusiasm, and inject a little it into the bloodstream of these patients, he could restore their health and vitality. Fear and enthusiasm never mix. Fear Is Removable A primary fact to know about fear is that it is removable. Fix that fact firmly in mind. Hold it tenaciously. No matter how many worries and anxieties harass you, remember always that they are removeable. The medicine of enthusiasm, with its immense mental and spiritual power, can heal you of fear. A good method of canceling out worry and fear is the deliberate use of enthusiasm plus self-discipline. As pointed out earlier, in order to have enthusiasm, simply act enthusiastic. Five-Point Program for Attacking Worry Specifically the method outlined was as follows: First, he was to carefully practice listening to himself. He was to note and study with meticulous attention every comment he made, so that he might become fully conscious of the amazing number of doleful and negative remarks he was constantly uttering. Second, he was to start being absolutely honest so that when he heard himself making a negative statement he was to ask himself: “Now look, do I honestly believe what I am saying or am I actually mouthing negativisms that I do not really believe at all?” Third, he was to adopt the practice of saying exactly the opposite of what he usually said, and he was to note how much better the new affirmations sounded. As he continued this new procedure, it became ever more exciting to hear words and ideas full of life, hope and expectancy coming from his mouth instead of the old defeatist remarks. He soon discovered that something really exciting was happening to him, namely an upsurge of dynamic enthusiasm. Fourth, he was to keep track of everything that happened as he worked his new procedure, carefully noting and computing even the smallest results. If he had been, for example, in the habit of saying glumly: “Things aren’t going to go well today,” now (since he was no longer mouthing negativisms) he was to note that things were much better, as they usually are. Fifth, he was to practice putting the best construction on every person and action each day. This is one of the most exciting of all personal development practices. In order to change the worry habit, first of all remember that persons can change—with determination and God’s help. Then as you speak and as you think, express only hopeful enthusiastic ideas. Deliberately look at the best side and it will become natural to you to expect the good, the positive and the beautiful in life. You will automatically find in yourself the enthusiasm you desired. Express your enthusiasm freely and upon all occasions. You’ve got it made! |
