2003年温家宝总理答中外记者问

“生于忧患，死于安乐。要居安思危，有备无患。”<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

One prospers in worries and hardship, and perishes in ease and comfort. We will have to be mindful of possible adversities and be prepared for the worst.

“苟利国家生死以，岂因祸福避趋之。”

I will do whatever it takes to serve my country even at the cost of my own life, regardless of fortune or misfortune to myself.

“生财有道，生之者众，食之者寡，为之者疾，用之者抒。”

There are many people who produce, there are very few people who consume, and people work very hard to produce more financial wealth and people practice economy when they spend. In this way, wealth is accumulated.

2004年温家宝总理答中外记者问

“雄关漫道真如铁，而今迈步从头越；路漫漫其修远兮，吾将上下而求索。”
The strong pass of the enemy is like a wall of iron, yet with firm strides, we are conquering its summit. My way ahead is long; I see no ending; yet high and low I’ll search with my will unbending.

“安不忘危，治不忘乱。”

In security, we should never forget the dangers and in times of peace, we should always beware of the potential for chaos.

2005年温家宝总理答中外记者问

“居安思危，思则有备，有备无患。”

We must be sober-minded, cautious, prudent especially when the situation is getting a little better.

“一尺布尚可缝，一斗粟尚可舂，同胞兄弟何不容？”

Even a foot of cloth can be stitched up; even a kilo of millet can be ground. How can two blood brothers not make up?

“行百里者半九十。”

If a journey is 100 miles, travelling 90 is half of it.

“危则安，思所以乱则治，思所以亡则存。”

To think about where danger looms will ensure our security; to think about why chaos occurs will ensure our peace; and to think about why a country falls will ensure our survival.

“得道者多助，失道者寡助。”

A just cause enjoys abundant support, while an unjust one finds little support.

2007年温家宝总理答中外记者问

“召远在修近，闭祸在除怨。”

To win distant friends, one needs, first of all, to have good relations with his neighbors. To avoid adversity, one needs to ease animosity.

“去问开化的大地，去问解冻的河流。”

Go and ask the thawing land, go and ask the thawing river.

“沉舟侧畔千帆过，病树前头万木春。”
