肯尼迪副国务卿，

赫什洪副部长，

各位大使，

尊敬的来宾，

女士们，先生们：

Under Secretary Patrick Kennedy,

Under Secretary Eric Hirschhorn,

Ambassadors,

Distinguished guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

　　热烈欢迎大家来到中国驻美国大使馆，和我们一起庆祝中华人民共和国成立63周年。

I want to start by welcoming all of you to the Chinese Embassy. It is a great pleasure and privilege to have you joining us in celebrating the sixty-third anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

　　今年是中国发展进程中很不平凡的一年。面对国内外各种复杂严峻挑战，中国采取一系列政策和措施，经济社会发展取得了新的成就。上半年国内生产总值同比增长7.8%，虽然速度有所放缓，但依然保持在预期目标区间内。

The year 2012 has been extraordinary in terms of China’s development process. China has to introduce a host of policies and measures to stabilize growth and balance the economy to meet with enormous domestic and external challenges. For the first six months, China’s GDP growth slowed down to 7.8%, but is still within the expected range.

　　展望未来，中国经济依然存在巨大发展动力和潜力，长期向好的趋势没有改变。我们完全有信心、有能力克服前进道路上的困难，保持经济平稳较快发展，继续为世界经济复苏和增长作出贡献。

Looking forward, we see strong vitality and enormous potential in the Chinese economy, and the upward trajectory will sustain. We have the confidence and ability to persevere through all the difficulties, keep the economy on the track of stable and relatively fast growth, and continue to contribute to the recovery and growth of the global economy.

　　今年以来，中美关系取得了新的进展。两国保持了密切的高层往来和高质量的对话磋商。双方在贸易、投资、能源、环保、人文、地方等领域交流合作不断深化，在重大全球和地区问题上保持着密切有效的沟通协调。

China-US relations continue to move forward. The two countries have maintained close high-level exchanges and high-quality dialogue and consultations. The two sides have also deepened cooperation in such areas as trade, investment, energy, environmental protection, people-to-people exchanges and sub-national cooperation. China and the United States have kept effective communication and coordination on major regional and global issues.

　　中国和美国分别是世界上最大的发展中国家和最大的发达国家，两国虽然在许多方面有所不同，但在恢复世界经济增长、维护世界和平与稳定方面拥有广泛的共同利益。在全球化时代，在两国相互依存不断加深的今天，看待和处理中美关系需要有新的视角、新的思维。我们坚定致力于根据两国元首达成的共识，建设相互尊重、互利共赢的中美合作伙伴关系。我相信，在双方共同努力下，中美两国完全可以打破历史上新兴大国与守成大国必然走向对抗的所谓“定律”，走出一条新型大国关系之路。

As the largest developing country and the largest developed country respectively, China and the United States are different in many aspects, but we do share extensive common interests in restoring global economic growth and maintaining world peace and stability. In the era of globalization and with increasing interdependence between the two countries, we need to view and approach China-US relationship with a new perspective and a new thinking. We are firmly committed to building a cooperative partnership based on mutual respect and mutual benefit as agreed by our two heads of state. I am confident that, with joint efforts, China and the United States can break the so-called historical premise that a newly emerging country and an established power will eventually head toward confrontation, and instead, embark on a new model of state-to-state relationship.

　　最后，我愿借此机会向长期以来支持和促进中美关系发展的各位朋友表示衷心的感谢。

Finally, I take this opportunity to express our deep appreciation to all of you for your valuable support and contributions to China-US relations.
