骆大使：

I think that our relationship has grown significantly over the last 30 years of diplomatic relationships and certainly over the last 40 years when President Nixon first came to China.  The volume of trade has grown so that for instance last year alone the U.S. exported over $100 billion worth of goods and merchandise to China and of course the Chinese sell much more than that to Americans.  That has created jobs for both the people of China and jobs for the people of America.

老实讲我认为我们两国关系有了很重要的进展。在之前我们建立外交关系这30年以来，也包括40年来，从尼克送总统第一次访华以来，我们的贸易额，比如说去年的美国出口到中国的总额达到一千亿美元。而且中国销售到美国的产品是更多了。这个对美国人民和中国人民都创造了就业机会。

Of course we have a very extensive people to people exchanges.  There are some 150,000 Chinese students studying in America every single year.  We welcome those students.  In fact we welcome a very strong and prosperous China because it’s good for the people of China, it’s good for the world, and it’s also good for American jobs.

而且我们有非常广泛的人民对人民的一个交流项目，差不多每年有15万中国留学生到美国去，我们欢迎中国这些学生到美国学习，而且我们欢迎一个非常强的繁荣的中国，因为这对中国人民，对世界有好处，对美国的就业机会也有好处。

Let me also say I’ve been to Chongqing many times and to Szechuan province many times.  I’m constantly in awe of the incredible transformation, modernization of the area.  Most importantly, I’m so proud that the quality of life and the standard of living for the Chinese people has grown so dramatically.  Throughout all of China hundreds of millions of people have been lifted out of poverty thanks to the opening-up policies of China and the trade between China and so many other countries around the world including the United States.

而且对我来说，我来过重庆很多次，也到过四川省好几次，我一直感到非常惊讶，看到这个地区的这些转型和现代化，最重要的是我感到非常自豪的，就是中国人民生活质量，生活水平的改善，还有就是全中国人民的这个事情而感到自豪。还有就是上百万人摆脱贫困，这些都归功于中国的对外开放政策，以及中国同世界各地，包括美国在内的贸易关系的发展。
